Hi Everybody!  Welcome to my blog about soda blasting, the environmentally friendly cleaning method that uses a form of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) in place of other non-environmentally friendly, and health hazardous blasting medias like sand.

I’ve shown you examples of some common, real life applications for soda blasting like stripping automotive paint from steel and aluminum bodied vehicles, removing old finishes from wooden furniture, and cleaning swimming pool tile, even restoring old kiddie rides.

Today I want to talk about soda blasting precision parts using a soda blasting cabinet.  A soda blasting cabinet is used for cleaning or stripping parts inside of a shop, factory or garage.   Nothing beats soda blasting for cleaning or stripping any kind of part or piece where you want to maintain the dimensional or surface characteristics.  This is critical for many types of engine and transmission rebuilding or repair.

Indy Specialty in Welch, Minnesota is a complete CNC Polaris motor rebuild shop, that specializes in building motors to better than factory quality and performance.  They have state-of-the-art CNC and conventional motor rebuilding equipment for all types of motors from snowmobiles, ATV, dirt bike, outboards and more.  They also have an ACE Model 2-S Soda Blasting Cabinet with Dust Collector, which is used extensively on a daily basis to clean cylinder heads, crankcases and clutches.

    My name is Cherine and I own a small specialist cleaning business in the United Kingdom which offers cleaning and stripping solutions for delicate parts using primarily soda blasting, ultrasonic cleaning, acid dipping and electrolytic rust removal.

    I have read your previous blog postings (and from here on your blog will be referred to as ‘The Bible’) and have gained a *wealth* of information which has both enthused and informed, in equal measure.

    I have been particularly interested in this post as the work described is very, very similar to what I do.
    I (too) use a super piece of kit called the ACE Model 2-S Soda Blasting Cabinet with Dust Collector and have just soda blasted some aluminium engine casings for some citroen 2CV classic dars. I soda blast anything from carburettor parts, which was some of the work that I was doing last week, to soda blasting a rolls royce air filter housing in order to remove the original factory paint.

    It is now time to restock on soda and while I have been using and have only ever used Armex Maintenance Formula, which has seemed perfect for the work that I have been doing, I wonder whether there would be any advantage to using the Maintenance XL on parts such as the air filter housing, for example; which require a little more time and effort.
    I must have missed this information in The Bible!

    You have inspired me, The Soda Blasting Guy and I too have a blog about soda blasting on my website although it has a long way to go before I could ever present it as any sort of explanation to the different facets of the soda blasting process!
